Year of Light for Ukrainian Orphans

During 2009 - 2010 THE YEAR OF THE LIGHT FOR UKRAINIAN ORPHANS will build on what we have achieved through our proven models of care over 10 years in Dniprodzerzhynsk, Sevastopol and Mukachevo.

Whilst we rejoice for those lives we have transformed: we are saddened that babies abandoned in hospital and children in orphanages continue to be desperately vulnerable. They are still abandoned and neglected. They still have dreadfully inadequate levels of education and no life skills that will allow them to become the people they were created to be.

On leaving the institutions they still have nowhere to go and nowhere to call “home”. Both inside and outside the orphanages they continue to be victims of corruption and crime.

So the first aim for THE YEAR OF LIGHT is to break this perpetual spiral of poverty and the darkness that comes through lack of hope and a lack of love.

We will do this by

• Developing our work supporting orphaned “graduates” to include those in Dniprodzerzhynsk

• Ensuring the physical survival of more abandoned babies

• Bringing more of these babies and younger children in orphanages into loving Christian homes

• Expanding our activities to working and praying with those who still remain in soulless institution

How can you help?

• by lighting a candle for a short period each Sunday and letting the light be a symbol of God’s presence with you on the Sabbath day.  As you use the light be aware of God’s love for you and the children that ChildAid serves. The flame will be a reminder that neither you nor they are ever alone.

“Oh God, let this flame kindle in me an assurance of your presence with me and with all the abandoned and neglected children of Ukraine. May it warm our souls so that together we may find courage, strength and hope in these dark days. Fill us with the light of your love. Amen”
